Campaign Book Icarus Is Out In The US

FFG has announced that Campaign Book Icarus has officially released and available in game stores across the United States. It should be out in other parts of the world in the next week or so.

The release article also features a few words from Levi Hill, aka OldHat from Dust War, about the new platoon upgrades in the book. They look pretty insane, and I can’t wait to try them with my own army!

Zombies, USMC And Icarus Land In The US

FFG has posted an announcement that the Allies USMC Heavy Weapons Teams, Axis Übertoten Suicide Squad and Übertoten Assault Squad are now available across the US. Additionally, Operation Icarus for Dust Tactics, which includes the Panzerprinz and Sgt. Victory miniatures as well as Quonset hut terrain, is also available.

These products should be available in other parts of the world in the next couple of weeks.

The Icarus Wave Begins In The US

FFG has posted an announcement that three models from the Icarus release wave are now available in the US: The Axis Horten HO-347, the SSU KV-47 Recovery & Demolition Walker, and the Airfield Accessory Pack (Quonset Huts).

There’s no word yet on when these models will be available in other parts of the world, but it looks like the usual two-week gap between the US release and the worldwide release.

FFG Lines Up New Units For Battle

FFG has announced new units for all three factions, including aircraft, suicidal zombies, and some weapons platforms.

First up, the official announcement of the first Allied aircraft, which now has a name: the P-48 Pelican.

P-48 Pelican Allied Aircraft, Bellowing Bertie configuration

The Pelican comes in two configurations: the Diving Dotty and the Bellowing Bertie (pictured). The former is equipped with 500kg bombs, while the latter comes with Ground Rockets. Both versions have Triple Dual .50 cal machine guns.

Next up, the Axis Ubertoten Suicide Squad (not to be confused with the Ubertoten Assault squad announced late last year).

Axis Ubertoten Suicide Squad

These guys live up to their unit’s name. They’re equipped with Magnetic Mines which they can use to blow up armour, after softening up said armour a bit with their Panzerfaust 100s.

Finally, the SSU will receive a fresh supply of the BR 47 Self-Propelled Weapons Platform.

SSU Br 47 Self-Propelled Weapons Platform, Red Rain configuration

This vehicle can be used in either the Red Fury or Red Rain (pictured) configuration. The Red Fury boasts a 100mm M1946, while the Red Rain has a 200mm Heavy Mortar that works well with Observers to shell enemy targets.

The announcement doesn’t state a release date for these new units, giving only “in the near future” as a release window. But given the inclusion of the Allied aircraft, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them released as part of the Icarus wave.

Four New Hades Units Land In The UK

Esdevium Games, the UK’s main Dust distributor, has posted their latest New Releases sheet (PDF link) which confirms that four new units are available in the UK starting from this week: the Red Guards Assault Squad and IS-5 Heavy Tank for the SSU, the Heavy Antitank Grenadiers for the Axis, and the British Commandos/French Foreign Legion Kill Squad for the Allies.

The new units should also be available from most European game shops, either now or very soon.

Hades Units Roll Out

FFG has posted an update to say that four units from the Hades wave are now shipping in North America: the IS-48 Super-Heavy Tank and the Red Guards Assault Squad for the SSU, the Heavy Antitank Grenadiers for the Axis, and the British Commandos Kill Squad for the Allies.

The IS-48 and the Red Guards are also shipping in the UK (and most likely parts of Europe) this week, along with Operation Hades for any SSU players who’d like to get their hands on a Winter Child. The Heavies and the Kill Squad are likely to ship in the UK next week, although that’s still unconfirmed.

Baueda 28mm Wooden Boxes And Steel Drums

Baueda Wargames has recently released some WW2-era wooden boxes and steel drums in 28mm scale. If you’re putting together a table for Dust Warfare (and maybe other games), these might be a nice addition to add some extra flavour to the board.

The boxes come in a pack of 12 for €5.50 and the steel drums come in a pack of 18 (including 3 jerrycans and 3 buckets) for the same price, which isn’t horrible as terrain prices go. Thanks, TTGN, for the heads-up.

Axis Heavy Weapon Guys

Following on from yesterday’s article about the Allied Kill Squads, FFG has posted another article by Jeremiah Terry, this time focusing on the Axis Heavy Antitank Grenadiers.

Like the Allied article, this article focuses on Tactics, but there are some nice army list ideas in the article that could work as Warfare lists. I quite like the idea of a laser army!

The Grenadiers are due for release in the week beginning November 19 in North America, and hopefully soon after that in other parts of the world.

The British And French Are Landing Soon

The FFG Dust Tactics site has published a guest article by Jeremiah Terry, the main man behind Front Toward Enemy, that focuses on the new British Commandos Kill Squad. While the article primarily focuses on the unit’s effectiveness in Dust Tactics, the interesting bit for Warfare players is that the unit comes out next week (in North America).

Of course, as these guys are part of the Hades wave, you won’t be able to use them until Campaign Book Hades is out. But FFG recently changed the status of that book to “On the boat”, so it should be out soon.

Interestingly, they’ve also set the status of the Axis Heavy Antitank Grenadiers and the SSU IS-48 Super-Heavy Tank, also part of the Hades wave, to “Shipping Now”, so hopefully we’ll see those units on store shelves very soon as well.

FFG Reveals More Upcoming Units

FFG has posted information on some more units that will be dropping on battlefields in the near future.

First up, the SSU gets the Hailstorm and Red Lightning Heavy Weapons Teams.

SSU Hailstorm Heavy Mortar Team

The Hailstorm Heavy Mortar Team (pictured) has a 120mm mortar that can either launch an artillery strike, or an aimed shot at closer range.

Meanwhile, the Red Lightning Tesla Gun Team is armed with a tesla gun, much as you’d expect them to be! The gun can even explode if the unit goes down, dealing damage to nearby units.

The Axis will get more zombies to add to their undead ranks, in the form of the Ubertoten Assault Squad.

Axis Ubertoten Assault Squad

These guys are basically the “living undead”, or smart zombies! They come equipped with MG48 guns and the Panzerfaust 100 antitank weapon. The big question doing the rounds at the moment is will they be Infantry 2 or 3? We’ll have to wait to find out.

Finally, the Allies get another heavy walker to add to their ranks with the Heavy Support Walker.

Allied Skysweeper Heavy Support Walker

This monster comes in three configurations. The Long Tom II has the Long Tom M2 artillery weapon which, interestingly, doesn’t have to be reloaded, although it’s strictly a long-range weapon.

The Mobile HQ version serves as a Command Vehicle, and allows a squad of 6 to jump inside and command troops. It also comes with three .50 cal MGs.

Finally, the Skysweeper (pictured) is the anti-air variant, and has a triple 60mm anti-air gun for knocking aircraft out of the skies. The gun can also be fired at ground targets.

Unusually, a projected release date isn’t given for these units. But given that the Ubertoten are included, who were revealed as part of the Campaign Book Icarus announcement, it’s probably safe to say they’re part of the Icarus wave scheduled for the first quarter of 2013.

Non-Premium Winter Child Ready To Fight

Following on from Wednesday’s news about the premium Operation Hades box, FFG has announced that the regular Hades box is now available at North American game stores. The box includes an unpainted Winter Child model, which will probably show up (mostly likely in painted form) in a few SSU lists, and costs $45 RRP.

Operation Hades should show up in Europe and elsewhere in the next week or two, if past results are anything to go by, and Campaign Book Hades should appear at some point in November (the latest rumour is mid-November).

Premium Winter Child Now Available

Over on the Dust Facebook group, Bryan posted to say that the premium edition of Operation Hades is now available from Dust Models. The box includes a studio-painted Winter Child model which looks something like this:

Winter Child (premium version)

The glowing hand is probably not included, although it’d be nice if it was! The box costs $65, so if you’re not a Tactics player it’ll be up to you to decide if it’s worth buying the box just to get the model, albeit in painted form. Shipping from Dust Models is free until November 10.

Campaign Book Icarus Announced

FFG has posted the official reveal of Campaign Book Icarus. The book is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2013 and it’ll be 48 pages.

Campaign Book Icarus cover (not final artwork)

Along with new rules for aircraft and airfields, the book will contain some previously unannounced things. The Axis will get a new type of superzombie called Ubertoten, and a new air-based variant of the battle builder will be included. Intriguing stuff!

New Icarus Vehicles Revealed

Along with the announcement of Operation Icarus (which, no doubt will eventually morph into Campaign Book: Icarus for Dust Warfare), FFG has also announced some new units and terrain for the Axis, Allies and SSU.

The Axis will be the first in the game to get winged aircraft, with the Horten HO-347 Fledermaus III and IV:

Horton HO-347 "Fledermaus III" Axis aircraft

The Fledermaus III is both an air and ground attack aircraft, while the IV is a bomber that also has air and ground attack capabilities.

The SSU will get the KV47 Recovery and Demolition Walker:

FFG is keeping quiet on what these walkers will be able to do, although it looks like they might be able to repair other vehicles.

Finally, the Allies will receive the USMC Heavy Weapon Teams, aka Leathernecks and The Choppers:

The Choppers, Allied USMC Heavy Weapons Team

The Choppers is an MG unit that, intriguingly, has a skill called Advanced Reactive Fire. Meanwhile, the Leathernecks is a mortar squad with a mortar that never jams!

Finally, for the airfield table that many (myself definitely included) will build, Quonset Huts:

Quonset Huts Airfield Accessory Pack

You get four of these huts in Operation Icarus, but just in case you need more, you’ll be able to buy this six-pack of airfield shelter.

Have a look at the post for pics of all of the new units. I’m sure you’ll agree, exciting times are ahead! The new units are scheduled to appear when Operation Icarus does, in the first quarter of 2013.

FFG Announces Operation Icarus

Fantasy Flight Games has announced the sixth expansion for Dust Tactics which, naturally, also has relevance for Dust Warfare as well. It’ll be called Operation Icarus.

Operation Icarus

The expansion focuses on air power, as the Axis and SSU battle over the skies of Zverograd, and the Allies try to gain a foothold in the region.

Operation Icarus will also introduce a couple of new heroes — Panzerprinz for the Axis and Sgt. Victory for the Allies (a candidate for the best hero name so far) — along with new rules for Tactics, a couple of which will probably find their way into Warfare such as the rules for Quonset Huts.

Check out the announcement article for all of the details and pics of the new heroes. Operation Icarus is scheduled for the first quarter of 2013.

Joe vs Sigrid, Take 2

At the Dust Facebook group, Clement Boen from Dust Studio made a post (Facebook login required) to say that everyone who bought a limited edition Joe vs Sigrid pack (either one of the two) from Dust Models will receive a new pack soon.

For those who purchased DTCP001 / DTCP002 Joe & Sigrid, Dust Studio will send a revised version to you next week. So, if you have changed your addres since then, please contact us at info@dustgame.com.

When asked in the comments why the new pack will be sent out, he said:

We improved the paint job and we’ll send both to you again.

Dust Studio has consistently proved themselves as one of the good guys in the wargaming world, and this is just another example!

Custom Dust Bits at Bitz Garage

3D printing is a process in which a file from a CAD or modelling program is sent to a 3D printer, and the printer creates the object in that file as a three-dimensional solid object. It sounds great, but the problem is that 3D printers are still too expensive for the average consumer to afford.

But that’s where companies like Shapeways come in. Shapeways is sort-of like a “Cafepress for 3D printing”, where anyone can open a store and sell anything that a 3D printer could print.

Over the past few weeks, Umberto Bonomi, a regular on the Dust Facebook group, has been adding various Dust-related bits and accessories to his Shapeways store, such as this 6 KW Axis-inspired power generator.

6 KW power generator by Umberto Bonomi

Obviously, the models come unpainted; 3D printers aren’t that good yet! If you fancy adding a bit of flavour to your models or terrain table, have a nose around.

SSU Hero Pack Releases

The SSU Hero Pack, featuring Nikolai, Yakov and Red Yana, has slowly seeped into distribution over the past week or so, and FFG posted about the pack’s release last week. However, the FFG Event Center tweeted that it’s now available there, which is usually a sign that a box is generally available (in the US, at least).

The stats for these SSU heroes are included in Campaign Book Zverograd (which is actually available worldwide), so if you think they’d do well in your army, be sure to pick them up when they appear in your part of the world.

FFG Announces More SSU And Axis Armour

Fantasy Flight Games has updated with information on two more releases coming in the next few months, one Axis and one SSU. Both were first shown off at Gen Con last month in that infamous display case.

The Axis will get the Armored Transport heavy walker, with two configurations: Prinzluther and Sturmprinz.

Axis Armored Transport, Prinzluther configuration

The Prinzluther will introduce the Command Vehicle skill, allowing a command squad to give orders while inside the safety of the walker. Alternatively, the Sturmprinz isn’t a Command Vehicle, but is more heavily armoured and can carry more troops.

The SSU will receive the KV-3 Heavy Walker.

KV-3 SSU medium walker, Babushka configuration

If the shape reminds you of an Axis Luther walker, that’s because, in the fluff, the KV-3 is based on a captured Luther, but reconfigured the way the SSU likes it. The Babushka configuration is suited to mowing down infantry, while the Matrioshka is more of an anti-armour walker.

Both boxes will be on sale in the fourth quarter of 2012 (which isn’t far away), and will more than likely show up in Campaign Book Hades. Thanks to Fire Broadside! for the heads-up on Twitter.
