Dust War: Pelican Unboxing Video

At long last, Dust War has opened a YouTube channel! The first video is an unboxing of the Allies P-48 Pelican, in which OldHat takes a look at the new jet due in stores any day now in the US and in the next couple of weeks around the world.

The more Dust content, and support for that content, on YouTube, the better! Be sure to subscribe to the Dust War channel as it looks like more videos are on their way.

Remainder Of Icarus Units Due On May 16

FFG has updated the Dust items on the the Upcoming Releases page. The P-48 Pelican aircraft and Heavy Support Walker for the Allies, and the BR 47 Self-Propelled Weapon Platform and Heavy Weapons Team for the SSU are all “Shipping Now” and have an expected release date of May 16.

These are the last of the Icarus models to be released and, indeed, the final batch of new Dust models to be released through FFG.

Anything But Ones: 400 AP Axis Vs Allies Batrep

Anything But Ones has been busy lately with Dust batreps, and a new one has gone up recounting a recent Axis vs Allies battle. enrgie decided to throw both a Königsluther and a freshly-painted Fledermaus III into a 400 AP list, together with a dual sniper team setup.

400 AP seems to open up interesting new avenues for Dust Warfare list building. Have a look at how the match went and if the Axis could beat Punisher and co.

Dust War: Multiple Pelican Theorycrafting

At Dust War, OldHat has posted a theorycrafting article which looks at a way to get multiple P-48 Pelicans, the new Allied aircraft from Campaign Book Icarus, on to the table.

That being said, this list struck me from the get-go as a rather unkind approach to the air war – total domination. Well, more correctly “Air Supremacy”, I suppose. The list uses this wonderful little upgrade to get itself not one, two, or three, but four attack aircraft on the table. A feat no other army can currently do! So now the Allies will rule the skies, as befits their fluff.

As of today the Pelican isn’t out yet (it’s still “on the boat”), but the article is worth a read anyway. The Pelican is definitely more than a match for the SSU and Axis aircraft!

Wargaming Ninja Turtles: 300 AP Axis Vs Allies

Over at the Canadian blog Wargaming Ninja Turtles (still love that name!), Guillaume has posted an entertaining batrep of a recent 300 AP showdown between the Axis and Allies. A few units from the Icarus drop made it into his Axis list, including Panzerprinz, some Ubertoten and both variants of the Horten.

Lots of photos are included, and Guillaume provides plenty of reflection and analysis of the battle. While you’re there, why not check out some of his showcases too, including Sigrid, Panzerprinz and a Sturmpioniere paintjob inspired by the Panzer Elite faction from Company of Heroes (an amazing PC strategy game).

Lonely Gamers: Three-Faction Dust Photo AAR

At the Lonely Gamers blog, Vinnie has posted a batrep of his first game of Dust Warfare. It seems that his first taste of Dust was a positive one, and the battle was fought between all three factions on a great looking table. The report includes lots of great photos of the terrain, such as this overview.

Check out the post for closeups of the table, which includes a lot of scratch-built terrain.

Weird War Faction Dice Kickstarter

You might remember Ironheart Artisans for their fantastic Weird War tokens (which are very compatible with Dust!). They’ve now launched a kickstarter for Weird War faction dice, their latest project.

Weird War dice kickstarter by Ironheart Artisans.

The dice are configured like Dust dice: symbols on the 1 and 6 sides, blanks on every other side. If you’ve wondered where you can get custom faction dice for Dust, this is your chance!

The kickstarter has already busted through its initial goal, and is now heading through stretch goals. Optional add-ons are also planned, such as an extra dice option for backers who play heroes that throw lots of dice. The kickstarter will end on Sunday, May 5, 2013.

Dust War: Cracked Bases And Allied Troops

More content has appeared on Dust War, this time looking at cracked ground, and new troops for the Allies.

First up, newcomer to the site Zero takes a look at the Cracked Ground miniature bases from Dust Studio. These are actually made for Anastyr, the studio’s fantasy miniatures line, but they seem to suit Dust models, too.

The detailing on the bases is ambiguous enough that with a bit of color you can practically turn them into any different battlefield setting. They also work well just for basing heroes or other special units that you may want to stand out.

On the strategy side of things, OldHat sorts through some of the new Allied troops that you’ll find in your copy of Campaign Book Icarus.

On a last note for the Choppers – if you really, really want to get them into the fray, you can mount up a few onto a Mobile HQ and Air Drop it. With them riding on the outside, you can easily get within that magic 6″ range to unleash withering fire on the enemy. Sadly, this may be a one-shot thing, as they will most likely react and put paid to the Choppers. Sometimes, though, it is worth trading 13 AP for a much more dangerous unit.

OldHat does know his way around the halls of ASOCOM, and it seems the Allies have some interesting units arriving in the air war above Zverograd.

Campaign Book Icarus Is Out In The US

FFG has announced that Campaign Book Icarus has officially released and available in game stores across the United States. It should be out in other parts of the world in the next week or so.

The release article also features a few words from Levi Hill, aka OldHat from Dust War, about the new platoon upgrades in the book. They look pretty insane, and I can’t wait to try them with my own army!

Dust War: The New Undead And Falling Walkers

A couple of new articles have appeared at Dust War, one of which looks at the latest in zombie technology, and one that looks at falling heavy support walkers.

First up, Reichsmarschall Grot examines the latest Axis Blutkreuz Korps creations from Campaign Book Icarus, the Braineaters and the Heilige Tod.

Both units are Soldier 2 with Damage Resilient, and the Blutkreuz Ubertoten rule. This rule basically states that the unit never takes suppression markers, and that they can be joined by heroes both in the normal fashion, and by heroes with the Blutkreuz Zombie rule. So now we have armed infantry that are suppression resistant, but beyond that the purposing of the two units starts to diverge.

Meanwhile, OldHat looks at how the new Allied Heavy Support Walker can be combined with Air Drop in competitive lists.

The heart of both lists is the platoon upgrade Air Drop given to the new Mobile HQ from Campaign Book: Icarus. Inside, you put the Grim Reapers, while riding on the outside (dare I say shotgun?) are BBQ Squads w/ Sock & Tar. The former can hop out within 3” and be sure to be outside of 12” of the enemy and put down Suppression on up to three units with decent rolls.

Seems pretty effective!

Icarus Boxes Begin To Appear In The UK

Esdevium Games has posted the New Releases sheet for the week beginning March 18th, which shows the initial releases in the Icarus wave will land in the UK this week (and more than likely other parts of the world, too). These include the USMC Heavy Weapons Teams, the Axis Ubertoten squads, and the Operation Icarus expansion for Dust Tactics which contains Panzerprinz for the Axis, Sgt. Victory for the Allies, and some Quonset huts.

In related news, FFG has updated the status of Campaign Book Icarus to “On the Boat” on its Upcoming page. It won’t be long until we can field the likes of the USMC teams and the Horten jet on the tabletop!

Zombies, USMC And Icarus Land In The US

FFG has posted an announcement that the Allies USMC Heavy Weapons Teams, Axis Übertoten Suicide Squad and Übertoten Assault Squad are now available across the US. Additionally, Operation Icarus for Dust Tactics, which includes the Panzerprinz and Sgt. Victory miniatures as well as Quonset hut terrain, is also available.

These products should be available in other parts of the world in the next couple of weeks.

Campaign Book Icarus Preview

FFG has posted a preview of Campaign Book Icarus guest written by Levi Hill (who you might know as Dust War’s OldHat). The preview focuses on the Allies’ P-48 Pelican aircraft, which we haven’t heard much about as all the talk has been about the Axis Horton.

The article looks at both versions of the P-48, Diving Dotty and Bellowing Bertie, and some of the new abilities in Icarus, as well as the new Platoon Upgrades you’ll be able to choose from. A couple of example army lists are also included, one of which fields four Pelicans!

CB Icarus should be landing in stores in the next few weeks, in time for the 2013 Regionals season.
